It is summer vacation time in Peru!
After several very rough months, we received some generous donations that helped us begin the new year in a better place financially.
And one marvelous donor sent a gift earmarked to cover a vacation trip!
These trips are more valuable than ever as everyone is growing up and their lives become busier and more separate. We’re so grateful for the opportunity to relax and enjoy life together for a few days.
Here’s a summary of the trip from our Associate Director, Avishai:
Our yearly summer trip this year is not to far away destinationsā¦
We drove past Ollantaytambo, left the Sacred Valley, climbed over Abra Malaga, a 4,500-meter mountain pass, and down to the warm valleys of Quillabamba at about 1,000 meters.
Similar ecology to Machu Picchu, and a short way down the Vilcanota or Urubamba River, is called the town of eternal springā¦
Quillabamba, the seja de la selva, the eyebrow of the jungle, is where the Andes meet the jungle. Clean gushing rivers, waterfalls, rain, an abundance of tropical fruits, cacao, coffee plantations, Coca leaves bushes⦠We’re all sharing camping, cooking, hiking, swimming šāāļø very friendly local folks, very humid and warm and sometimes hot!
Local abundant mosquitos are the only challenge here. Eventually, we learn to avoid or accept them and enjoy our good fortune of being here!
We have LOADS of photos. I’ll be sharing more on our Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn pages soon.
