WHO: All donors, volunteers & friends of Niños del Sol
WHAT: Niños del Sol Closing Ceremonies
WHERE: Urubamba, Peru
WHEN: Weekend of March 1 & 2, 2025
(with additional lead-in activities for early arrivals)
WHY? To celebrate our youth & staff as they move into a new chapter of their lives.

Our base for all events will be Amaru Valle Hotel in Urubamba.

The hotel is very comfortable, convenient location, close to the center, Breakfast included.

We recommend booking Friday and Saturday nights, but we have activities planned for early arrivals, too.

1. Consider arriving at the Sacred Valley a few days early, to rest, explore, acclimate to the altitude (2,850 meters) and enjoy all that is available here!

2. Summer in the Sacred Valley… Rain mostly at nights, can rain sporadically during the day. Mild weather, not cold, can be warm days, cool nights. Plan on layers.

3. Please bring some fun attire (think Burning Man!) for the festive Gala night!

4. Please consider bringing some fun snacks and goodies to share during the event — Any typical foods from your hometown, such as cheese, nuts, dried fruits, chocolate, biscuits, or sweets.

5. If you can bring any fun photos from your past visits with the Ninos, please do! Consider enlarged prints, we’ll have a board to post them.

6. There will be a chance to collect donations to cover costs of the event, and for closing costs and future educational funds.

7. Stay in touch with us, and let us know your plans, if you need help or advice, if you wish to help in the kitchen or set up/ break down.

Early Arrivals

Raul and Dory will be offering hikes and tours on February 26, 27 and 28, by donation.

Thursday, February 27

Option 1: Urubamba & Terraces
This day our tour will start at 9:30 am. We will begin with a visit to the market and plaza of Urubamba where we will learn a little history and get to know the local products.
11:30 am Visit the the Yucay terraces (Los Andenes de Yucay) and learn how today locals still use the agricultural terraces. This tour is easy.
2:00 pm We will be returning to Urubamba where you can have lunch

Option 2: Moray & Maras
The transportation will pick us up at 9:00 am and we will visit Moray, a very important place for the Incas. We will be arriving at 9:40 am and we will have a one-hour tour. After visiting this beautiful place, we will be heading to the Maras salt mines, where we will be able to see and learn how salt is harvested. This place is unique and beautiful. In this place, we will have a one-hour tour, where you can buy lovely presents for your family and friends.
1:00 pm People who want to walk will have a walk downhill to pichingoto where the transportation will wait for us. This walk is easy and lasts approximately onr hour . People who do not want to walk can ride in the van.
2:10 Head to Urubamba where we can have our lunch.

For Moray, we will need to buy the partial tourist ticket for 70 soles which is valid for 3 days. Up to 4 sites in the Sacred Valley are included. The other option is to buy a “complete ticket” which costs 130 soles and is valid for 10 days,. This ticket allows visits at other sites in the entire sacred valley and Cusco. Salineras entry is charged by the community and costs 20 soles per person.


Friday, February 28: Rural visit to Raul’s grandmother’s house
The transportation will pick us up at 9:00 am. This day is very special since you will meet my grandmother where we will learn about the medical plants of the place and we will be able to see how the people of the community still maintain some traditions of their ancestors.
My grandmother will wait for us with a welcome of local products and a special meal.
We will be arriving in the community at 10:40 am.

At 11:30 am after learning a little about our life in the community and eating, we will go on our walk around the community where we will be able to learn about medicinal plants.
1:00 pm We will be return my grandmother’s house where we will be able to see the guinea pigs and what the house is like that comes from the Inca times. We will also be able to see some tools that we use in the communities.
1:30 pm We say goodbye to my grandmother and head to Pisac where we will have a short tour to Plaza de Armas
1:45 We will be heading to Urubamba
2:40 the transportation will drop us off at the hotel where our tour will end. The difficulty of the community walk will be medium

The other option to make it more economical is to go all together at 9:00 am by bus to pisac where our transportation will wait for us. After finishing the tour the driver will drop us off in Pisac where we can take the bus back to Urubamba.

Evening of Friday February 28th 

6:00 pm: Informal potluck dinner at Amaru Hotel

  • Live music by Beto and Ivan.
  • We will provide choclo, queso, papas and salsas, chicha morada and mate (herbal tea)
  • Everybody is welcome to bring other delicious edibles, wine, bread, fruit etc.
  • We’ll enjoy slideshows and videos after dinner
  • Also join us for a Bonfire, weather permitting.

Saturday March 1st 

10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Introductions of all the youth and guests, ice breaking games.
1:30 p.m. : Lunch at Amaru hotel prepared by our young chefs.
3 to 4:30 p.m.: Optional outdoors games and sports.
 4:30: Rest and prepare your party attire!

Gala night at AMA restaurant (Up Mariscal Castilla, Urubamba)

  • 6:00 p.m. cocktail party with live music 
  •  7:00 p.m. words from our directors and Board of Directors
  • 7:30pm festive dinner
  • Followed by live band dancing with Papok and friends!

Sunday March 2nd

 9:30 a.m. Personal presentations by the youth

12:00 transport to the pristine Pumahuanka River
 1 hour of quiet time 
Around 1:30pm walking down to Piscigranja for a scrumptious Trout buffet lunch.
3:00 p.m. back to Amaru Hotel for a closing gratitude ceremony led by Viviana, followed by a big fire!

Around 4:30pm… Goodbye hugs and kisses… Thank you!!
